A Response to a Crazy Christian

I will paraphrase what he wrote to me:

“Please Read, in an answer to faith.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Atheists. Islam extremists. Who else shoots and tries to dismantle the the truth and righteousness of the Creator who allows their life to continue? Why doesn’t God just destroy them? Because His ways are not our ways, His love is greater than our love and gives second chances where we give death sentences…”

Can’t say that I’ve heard Atheist’s being grouped with Islam extremists before.. It’s hard for me to think of anything more opposite. Don’t worry, Atheist’s don’t just try to “dismantle the truth” of a Christian god, they try to do the same of any god.

He continued..

“Atheists, a challenge: If theres is no heaven why waste your time on this earth? Why even take part in life and have loving relationships with other human beings if it ends with nothing? Why hold off the inevitable and set yourself up for disaster? Do you even think about what happened to your parents? Brothers or sisters? Family or friends? After they died? Is their memory just that, a memory? Why make a memorial that reads: In loving memory? Where did you learn to Love? Where did you learn to have a brain to have a memory?”

Great questions! It’s sad to hear that without a heaven, you would be wasting your time on earth. Actually, Atheist’s think you are wasting your time worshiping a mythical man on a cloud! I’m perfectly content with having life end with nothing, especially if the other option is to bow down to a ruthless dictator for eternity; that’s no heaven for me.

Here’s a quick exercise I came up with that could help you imagine what the end of life is like: Just try to remember before you were born. There’s not much to that memory is there? You didn’t exist. You didn’t know you didn’t exist, you didn’t know anything, you couldn’t know anything. That’s what death is.

All of those questions you can find answers to in science, I’m afraid religion doesn’t have any useful answers in our modern age that you couldn’t get anywhere else.

He continued..

“What evidence did you have this morning when you woke up and started your car? Did you have FAITH that the car would start? Did you have Faith driving down the road this morning? Did you have FAITH in that the small amount if empty space between you and the car on the opposite side of the road driving 60 mph? Or in the driver of the vehicle? Your life, I believe is based on faith. So what is it then that you put your FAITH in?”

I have faith in the human brain to overcome thousands of years of superstition, violence, and tyranny. People like you want us to return to the dark ages, but luckily for the human spirit, religion is losing the argument.

gabyluvsyoo asked: Have you read the 2,000 year old book, cover to cover? :) If not, I suggest a study Bible. It'll help clear up some of those misunderstandings you have <3

I’ve been reading the Bible since I was a little, and even more so since I’ve been an Atheist. I can’t say that I ever sat down and read the whole thing like it was one long narrative. I’ve definitely read a fair share.  What misunderstandings might you think I need help clearing up if I may ask?

You may not believe in Superman, but Superman believes in you.

What is this Sin nonsense?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a 2,000 year old book to tell me what is right and what is wrong. I certainly wouldn’t take “commandments” from a hypocrite in reality, let alone the fiction of the Bible.

The Bible really does a poor job of characterizing their super hero. I find the likes of Superman and Batman to be a lot more moral than God. I could give examples, but what’s the point, if you’re reading this, you know the inconsistencies and the contradictions.

When someone tells me that I was born in Sin, I know exactly who the enemies of humanity are. How can one go about life hating their own existence because some make-believe aura of evil that haunts them for existing? Not just themselves, but they think that of every human being. It’s sickening, it’s unhealthy, and a dangerous mindset.

So what is Sin? Well, you were born with it, and God just hates it! If you don’t repent you’ll go to HELL.

I’m sorry, people subscribe to this belief?

In reality, Sin is a word that has no meaning. We all know right from wrong, science has come up with great theories on why that is, and none of them have anything to do with a super hero.

What is the point of living without God?

This question really bothers me. It also scares me. So without further ado, here I go.

The idea that one needs a supernatural being who watches everything that one does, knows everything that one thinks, and dictates what ones life should be like, is insanity to me. How is that a point to life?

Do Christians really not have a life outside of their belief in a deity? What is the point of their life without Zeus?

Even without a god, it’s an unanswerable question. The point to life is different for everybody, but the stance that life is pointless without a faith in something? It’s ludicrous, it’s shocking, it’s stupidity.

I only say it’s stupidity on the fact that they are basing their life on their faith, and with no real evidence.

It scares me because what kind of person could put all of their life’s eggs in the basket of faith? They shouldn’t ever go to Vegas. They also shouldn’t ever lose their faith, or they might shoot up the town since life would be so pointless..

So, yes Atheist’s can find many points to life, without a celestial dictatorship, or fear of being eternally tortured, it’s quite liberating. The real question is, what is the point of God?

5 Reasons to be an Atheist

Hello, and welcome to my first blog post about Atheism and me. Please follow if you like my introductory blog, of which I am using to set the tone for the rest of my blogs. Also, if you wish to debate, I will be happy to oblige.

1.  Beauty

Many Christians find beauty in the idea that God created the Heavens and the Earth.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “What could possibly be more beautiful than a created universe?” I argue that a universe created out of billions of years of the natural process is a lot more beautiful than the universe being made in an instant, at the whim of a supernatural being, and it makes our existence a whole lot more unique, worthwhile and beautiful.

2. Happiness

Many Christians can’t understand a life without a heaven afterward, and think that Atheist’s are doomed to be unhappy because of a disbelief in an afterlife. I argue that the lack of an afterlife should show us how positively lucky we are to have been born at all, and how by living only one life, we should live it to the fullest. Oh, and Atheism doesn’t threaten you to eternal hell fire if you disagree :)

3. Safety

Religion can be dangerous, and doctors agree, it is the number 1 leading cause of death, genocide, genital mutilation, suicide bombings, mass suicides, sacrifices, stoning, honor killings, unwanted children, and anti-human affairs.

Christians admit that many horrible acts have been committed in the name of religion, but they like to think it is justified for the amount of good that religion is responsible for, and think that most people are not capable of doing good deeds without religion. Atheists find that terrifying. If the good Christians didn’t have a religion, they wouldn’t do good things anymore? So they are really doing good things just because they are Christian? Do you need a religion to be good, clearly not; you need only be a human with a brain and conscience.

4. Real answers to big questions

For those who are begging for answers for life’s questions, and find that religion is the only way those questions can be answered, take a look at science. Tired of the same old man in the sky story? There have been huge breakthroughs in molecular level biology and astrophysics that is truly fascinating, for example, did you know that the vast majority of the universe’s mass comes from nothing?

5. No Guilt

You were not born in sin. You don’t have to ask any supernatural being for forgiveness for existing. You are allowed to think about anything you want, even about denying the Holy Spirit. There is no supernatural dictatorship; you’re a part of humanity and humanity alone. There is no heaven, carpe diem! You are special and unique. You are privileged and curious, be curious. Question your faith, the faith of a person on a floating rock in a small part of the Milky Way Galaxy, among 400 billion other galaxies in the universe. The universe was not made for us.
